Reading

The stories we have read are:

A Quiet Night In by Jill Murphy

Owl Babies by Martin Waddell

Anna Hibiscus' Song by Atinuke

Handa's Surprise by Eileen Browne

Science

TLC class have been exploring the topic of Light and Dark.  We enjoyed turning off the lights in class and using torches to see how different light sources work.  We also enjoyed exploring the different sensory lights in the Sensory Room, turning them on and off to see the cause and effect of the lights.

Autumn 2

Remembrance Day

We are learning about significant events in our country's history.  For Remembrance Day, some of us wore a red poppy to say thank you to the brave people who help keep our world safe. We took a little quiet time to think about being kind to our friends so everyone can be happy and peaceful.  We made a class poppy wreath that we displayed for our school to see.

Christmas

We are learning about different religious festivals and celebrations.  We had so much fun decorating our class Christmas tree and learning songs for our Christmas performance in front of our Parents/Carers!  We also enjoyed making Christmas and Winter themed art and craft activities.

Spring 1

Kipper's Toy Box by Mick Inkpen

Pirates Love Underpants by Claire Freedman

Commotion in the Ocean by Charles Andreae

A little Scribble Spot by Diane Alber

Maths

This term, our pre-formal learners have been matching objects and pictures to 5.  We listen to familiar songs such as 5 Little Ducks, 5 Speckled Frogs and 5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer and use props from the songs to match and order the numbers.  Our semi-formal learners have been learning about length and height.  We enjoyed using weighing scales to weigh familiar objects in our classroom.  We also investigated mass and capacity using different sized containers and filling them with water.

Spring 2

Mental Health and Wellbeing

This term, TLC class are continuing to focus on our mental health and wellbeing through self-regulation.  A strategy we like to use to support our regulation is a Sensory Circuit.  It follows a specific three-step flow: Alerting (spinning or jumping to wake up the brain), Organising (balancing or throwing to improve focus), and Calming (heavy lifting or deep pressure to center the body).  TLC class are enjoying the many different ways a Sensory Circuit can be enjoyed.

Life Skills

TLC class are continuing to develop our communication skills through core vocabulary boards.  This term, we have been using them to express our likes and dislikes through activities such as Attention Bucket.  We also sorted familiar and non-familiar toys and books into likes and dislikes, as well as different foods.

Summer 1

Art and Design

This term, TLC have been learning about printing using everyday objects e,g. fruits and vegetables, toys and cups.  We use our weekly themes to create printed art work, for example, for Earth Day, we used round spikey balls to print blue and green to match the colours of planet Earth.
