November 2023

Letter of interest - 11/5/23

Dear Parents/Carers,

Your child has expressed an interest in our residential trip to Trewern; the borough’s residential site on the border with Wales. It is an outdoor adventure week where the children will have the opportunity to experience a wide range of activities that will be new to them and gain skills in independence and teamwork.

We propose to run the visit from Monday 13th November to Friday 17th November 2023. The children will live in dormitory style accommodation and all meals will be cooked for them by staff in the Trewern kitchen. Potential activities include mountain walking, climbing, caving, archery, abseiling and canoeing; all of which are supervised by fully qualified staff, employed by the borough at the centre. The cost of the trip per child, is £270. This includes, travel, food, activities, accommodation and specialist equipment.

There will be a meeting in the school hall at 3:30pm on Tuesday 23rd May 2023 for any adults that wish to find out more about what the trip involves, it will also give you the opportunity to ask any questions. If you have had a child visit Trewern with us in recent years, it is not necessary for you to attend but you are more than welcome. This meeting should finish by 4:00pm.

To find out more about what the trip involves, please head to our school website. Within the parents section, you can click on ‘Trewern’ to find out what we got up to on previous trips. There is also a link to Trewern’s own website.

It has been a very valuable trip for many children and families over the years and we would like your child to be able to join those that have had the opportunity to enjoy the experience. I hope you consider this opportunity for your child and look forward to seeing many of you at the meeting.

If you would like to book your child a place on this trip, you will need to send in a non-refundable deposit by Friday 30th June 2023.  The deposit is £50.  Once your deposit is received, your child’s place will be secured and a payment card will be issued soon after. You may, if you wish, pay in instalments or the full amount of £270 in one go. Full payment must be made by Friday 13th October 2023.

Please complete the attached slip and return it to school to inform us whether you are attending. It can also be used to pay the £50 deposit. If we do not receive enough interest in the trip then it will have to be cancelled and ALL money shall be returned. If you have any questions regarding the trip and you are unable to attend then please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Trewern Kit list

Here is a list of the things that you will need to bring to Trewern. You shouldn't need to buy anything new for the trip as clothes will often get very dirty. Old clothes that are practical are much better than new fashionable clothes.

Bedding:                      A pillow case

                                    A bottom sheet (single bed)

                                    A duvet cover

For activities: (All specialist equipment is provided - walking boots, helmets, waterproofs, wellies etc)

                                    3 sweaters/fleeces

                                    4 T-shirts

                                    3 pairs of jogging bottoms

                                    4 pairs of thick socks

                                    Warm hat and gloves

                                    2 waterproof bin bags

You will also need: Clothes to wear in the house in the evening and for travelling to                                             Trewern and back

A pair of trainers to wear outside the house

A pair of slippers or a second pair of trainers to wear inside the house

                                    Pyjamas

                                    Towel

Wash kit (toothbrush, toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo, roll on                                                deodorant)

Children should bring a water bottle to be refilled for the week. Alternatively, they can purchase a Trewern water bottle if they wish.

Please label clothes for identification, there is always a pile of unclaimed items at the end of the week.

The house has a drying room that dries clothes overnight; we will often wear clothes again for activities.

Spray deodorants can set off the alarms so do not bring these.

Do not bring hair straighteners as they are a fire risk.

Electronic equipment is not to be brought, it will distract from the experiences that we are trying to provide.

Any medicine should be passed on to staff before departure, do not put any in your child's suitcase/bag.

Children will not have the opportunity to spend any money other than in the souvenir shop run by staff. Children are allowed a maximum of £10 to spend. Any money should be given to staff before departure.

Children should pack their own cases/bags and a list of items is often useful.

Children are responsible for all the items that they bring - we will not be held responsible for any loss or damages.
