LETTER FROM THE UK HEALTH SECURITY AGENCY FOR PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN

IMPORTANT MMR LETTER TO PARENTS/CARERS

Think measles!

Measles is circulating, it’s very infectious and can make you very ill if you catch it.

You can catch measles at any age. If you are unvaccinated and get measles you can easily spread the illness to anyone unvaccinated. The MMR vaccine is safe and effective. You need 2 doses of MMR at least one month apart to be fully protected against measles, mumps and rubella. It’s time to make measles a disease of the past.

It’s never too late to be vaccinated.

Measles symptoms include:

  • high fever
  • sore, red, watery eyes
  • coughing
  • aching and feeling generally unwell
  • a blotchy red brown rash, which usually appears after the initial symptoms

If you or your child have symptoms of measles, contact NHS111 or speak to your GP Practice.

For more information speak to your GP surgery or visit the NHS website.

To make it easier for you to get vaccinations, the GP Federation have created a self-booking page for Measles vaccinations, allowing B&D registered patients to book appointments with the nurse at the weekday evenings and weekends at our Hubs.

IMPORTANT MEASLES INFORMATION

•         Measles can be very serious but is completely preventable

•         Current MMR uptake levels in London are the lowest in a decade, with a high risk of outbreaks in under-vaccinated communities.

•         Ensure your children are vaccinated.

•         It is never too late to catch up. You can get both doses of your MMR vaccine for free on the NHS whatever your age

•         Animal-product free / porcine-free vaccines are available on request

·       Building on this success, the NHS is expanding our national invitation and reminder scheme in the next few weeks, by inviting those aged 6 to 11 years old who are missing their first or second MMR vaccination. Over February and March, we will be inviting around 1 million children via their parents and guardians.

·       This is being expanded further across the Midlands (Birmingham and Solihull, and Coventry and Warwickshire) and London to include 11- to 25-year-olds, we will be inviting around 1.2 million children and young adults in areas with more cases.

Message from Your Parent Support Advisor

It is so lovely seeing you all in the mornings and for those of you who are new to Leys I am your support, assisting parents through your child’s journey throughout Leys Primary School.  Conversations are private and confidential and I will do my best to support you in any way that I can with any matters, whatever they may be.  Our website is full of important information, helping our community and especially our Leys Parents/Carers. I look forward to meeting you all and can be contacted via the main school office by telephone on 020 8270 6470 or you can make an appointment to see me in person.  Unfortunately, I am unable to assist you with any in-depth matters while on gate duty, where most of you will see me.

Thank you to all who attended my Coffee Morning, it was lovely to see you and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and lovely comments that I have received. Our Coffee Morning is a great opportunity to get to know our parents/carers who have children that attend our school. My next Coffee Morning will be on Wednesday 27th March from 9:45 am to 10:45 am. Ashley Morris from the Hub at the Dagenham Library will be joining me to give you the support you need.  Please keep checking our website for future workshops and events.

Warmest wishes,

Mrs. J Walters PSA/Medical/Admissions
