Spring 2

Week 1

We have been reading ‘What the ladybird heard’, we have been doing good listening like the lady bird and played the game Chinese whispers. In phonics we identified different animal noises. In maths we counted up to 10 and matched the number of spots on the ladybird. We made maps of the farm to retell the story. We practiced our cutting skills by cutting out shapes to make a ladybird.

Week 2

This week we have been reading ‘Super-Worm!’ In maths we measured worms to find out which were the longest or shortest, we also learnt about prepositions, “the worm is in the pot”. In phonics we have been learning about rhyming words. PSED we talked about why Super-worm was a good friend. UTW we found out where worms live and how they move. We looked at a worm farm in the garden and sang the song, ‘There’s a worm at the bottom of the garden’.

Week 3

This week we have been reading ‘Bumble-Bear!’ We learnt all about why we need bees and how they make honey. In Maths we matched numerals to quantity correctly. We also sequenced the events of our school day and compared them to life at bee school. We made honey sandwiches and had a picnic for our Friday treat. We learnt new vocabulary such as sticky, sweet and delicious.

Week 4

This week we have been reading ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’. We have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and we looked and some real-life caterpillars with microscopes. In maths we practiced counting all the food that the caterpillar ate. We moved our bodies to curl up like an egg on a leaf and then wiggle like caterpillars and fly like butterflies.

Week 5

This week we have been reading ‘Mad about Mini-Beasts’. We named lots of different kinds of mini-beasts and talked about our favourite ones and why. In maths we practiced ordering numbers correctly. In phonics we sang songs and made up poems about mini-beasts. We were able to name facts about mini-beasts and identify different mini-beasts in the game who am I?

Week 6

This week we have been learning all about the celebration of Easter. In maths we practiced our number recognition and counting. We went on an egg hunt and found lots of eggs hidden around the nursery and the garden. In phonics we practiced our rhyming and matched words that rhyme together.
