Autumn 1

Week 1

We have been exploring our new environment, meeting new friends and reading the book ‘Let’s go to Nursery!’

We talked about what we like to do at nursery.

Week 2

We have been drawing self-portraits, learning about our similarities and differences. We have been reading ‘Only one you’. We talked about us all being special and unique.

Week 3

We have been taking about our families, learning about different cultures and making some family pictures. In maths we have been counting to 5. We read the story ‘part of the party’ and discussed that all families are different but that everyone should be included.

Week 4

We have been learning about body parts, we sang the song head, shoulders, knees and toes. The children drew around one of their friends and then labelled the body parts correctly. We read the book ‘Eyes, Noes, Fingers and Toes’.

Week 5

We have been learning about the five senses. Sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell. We used our good listening ears to go on a listening walk in the nursery garden. We used our senses to complete a smell challenge and some food tasting.

Week 6

We have been talking about feelings and emotions. We read the story ‘Colour Monster’. We explored mixing colours and talked about how we can express different emotions. We talked about who we can talk to when we are feeling sad and know that we are not alone.

Week 7

This week we are reading ‘Room on the broom’. We learnt about rhyming words and played a rhyming game finding things that rhyme with cat. We explored pumpkins and made potions using the magic words from the story IGITY, ZIGITY, ZAGITY, ZOOM!
