2. What we've been learning

Autumn 1:

English

 

The focus this term is reading 'The Great Kapok Tree' .  We will explore environmental themes and learn how to debate using a balanced argument so that we can write persuasively.  We will also begin to explore the text 'Counting on Katherine' which will allow us to learn the skills required to write a biography.

 

Maths

This autumn term, Year 4 children will develop their confidence in maths through the White Rose Maths scheme, beginning with place value and numbers up to 10,000. They will build their skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication and area, while becoming more confident with their times tables. Throughout the term, children will solve problems, explain their thinking and develop the skills they need to tackle new mathematical challenges.

 

Science

This autumn term, Year 4 children will explore Living Things and Their Habitats and Animals Including Humans, learning how living things can be grouped and classified according to their characteristics and how different habitats support a variety of plants and animals. They will also learn about the human life cycle, including how people grow and develop through different stages of life. Through the Developing Experts scheme, children will develop their scientific skills by observing, questioning, investigating and using evidence to explain the world around them.

 

History

This autumn term, Year 4 children will explore Ancient Greece, learning about Greek society, daily life, beliefs and the significant impact the Ancient Greeks had on the world we live in today. They will investigate key historical events, people and achievements, including the origins of democracy and the Olympic Games. Through the Developing Experts scheme, children will develop their historical skills by using evidence, asking questions and making connections between the past and the present.

 

 

We will also continue to enjoy our RE, PHSE an French lessons and look forward to completing lessons in Art, Design Technology, Music and Geography later on in the year.
