Design and Technology – Intent, Implementation and Impact

Intent

Our Design and Technology curriculum develops pupils’ creativity, problem-solving skills and technical knowledge through practical, purposeful projects derived from the D & T Associations (DATA) ‘ Projects on a Page’ national curriculum based scheme of work. In line with the Primary National Curriculum, children learn to design, make and evaluate products that meet real needs, preparing them for an increasingly technological world.

Implementation

Design and Technology is taught through progressive, project-based units that follow the design process: research, design, make and evaluate. Pupils work with a range of materials, tools and mechanisms, including cooking and nutrition. Projects are carefully sequenced to build skills, technical knowledge and vocabulary, with carefully considered cross-curricular links to provide a contextualised curriculum for our children.

Impact

Pupils become confident designers who can apply skills, evaluate their work and explain their design choices. They show creativity, resilience and independence, producing high-quality outcomes and leaving primary school with the skills and understanding needed for further learning in Design and Technology.
