Art and Design – Intent, Implementation and Impact

Intent

At Leys Primary School, our Art and Design curriculum encourages creativity, self-expression and confidence. In line with the Primary National Curriculum, pupils develop skills in drawing, painting, sculpture and a range of other media, while learning about artists, designers and cultures. Children are encouraged to explore ideas, take creative risks and express themselves through their artwork.

Implementation

Art and Design is taught through progressive units that build skills and knowledge over time. Pupils work with a variety of materials and techniques, using sketchbooks to develop ideas and practice skills. Lessons follow a clear process of exploring, creating and evaluating, with purposeful cross-curricular links to support understanding and engagement.

Impact

Pupils leave Leys Primary School as confident and creative artists. They can apply a range of techniques, evaluate their work using appropriate vocabulary and show pride in their achievements, with a secure foundation for future learning in Art and Design.
