Autumn 1

All About Me

We are learning about ourselves, our facial features, our homes and the members of our families.  We are beginning to recognise that all families are different, and that all families are beautiful and special.

Emotions

We are learning about our emotions and feelings.  We have used the Zones of Regulation, and the film 'Inside Out' to support us recognise these emotions.  The colours help us remember the emotions, for example; happy is green and blue is sad.  We are learning to understand that it is okay to feel all emotions and are beginning to recognise what makes us feel this way.

Autumn 2

Remembrance Day

We are learning about significant events in our country's history.  For Remembrance Day, some of us wore a red poppy to say thank you to the brave people who help keep our world safe. We took a little quiet time to think about being kind to our friends so everyone can be happy and peaceful.  We made a class poppy wreath that we displayed for our school to see.

Christmas

We are learning about different religious festivals and celebrations.  We had so much fun decorating our class Christmas tree and learning four songs for our Christmas performance in front of our parents/carers!  We even learned the Makaton signs for some of our songs!

We also enjoyed making Christmas and Winter themed art and craft activities.

Spring 1

Under the Sea

This term, we are reading stories such as 'Commotion in the Ocean' by Giles Andreae and

'Captain Buckleboots on the Naughty Step' by Mark Perring.  We really enjoyed making pirate hats and treasure maps!  As a class we went on a treasure hunt to find the missing treasure chest in the Nursery.  We also explored under the sea themed sensory trays and we made sea creatures out of playdoh.

It's Okay to Be Different

We are learning that we are not all exactly the same. We may have different homes, eat different foods, and like different toys and games.  We are learning to understand and embrace our differences.  We did this by building different types of homes from blocks, choosing and presenting our favourite toys to the class, and exploring foods from around the world.
