2. What we've been learning

Spring Term

English

In English we are looking at traditional tales.

We have been writing instructions about how to look after a chick.

Maths

In Maths we have begun to look at sharing equally.

We have been looking at odd and even numbers. We used tens frames and counters.

Curriculum

As part of our History and DT curriculum, we took part in a toy workshop. We saw how toys had changed throughout history. We looked at toys made from different materials and compared them. We investigated mechanisms and experimented making moving pictures. We investigated different types of puppets.

We then made some toys of our own. We made boats (made from cork) dolls (from wooden pegs, wool and fabric), spinning tops, moving pictures (made from paper and elastic bands) and a cup and ball (made from paper and string).

Hand Puppets

In DT, we designed and made our own hand puppets, made from fabric, using learned sewing techniques.

Design a vehicle

In DT, we designed, made and evaluated a vehicle. It needed to be able to carry heavy things and travel across bumpy and uneven surfaces.  We thought about its size, the best type of wheels and its strength.

Science

In Science we are learning about life cycles. We have been looking after chicks. They arrived as eggs. We watched the eggs wobble (and heard cheeping from within). They pecked their way out of the shells. Once the chicks had died off in their incubator, they fluffed up and looked 'really cute!'

We then moved them into the brooding box to eat and drink. We learned how to care for them.
