2. What we`ve been learning

English

In our new English unit, we are using Dragonology as our text.  Pupils will develop their reading and writing skills by studying non-fiction texts, identifying their features, and creating their own dragonology entries. They will write detailed reports, fact files, explanation texts and newspaper reports linked to dragon discoveries. Grammar and vocabulary work focuses on formal language, technical terminology, expanded noun phrases, and cohesive devices.

Reading

In reading, we are consolidating our skills when answering questions about a text. We have looked at retrieval questions, inference questions and summarising questions.

Maths

In Maths this term, we are consolidating our knowledge of perimeter, area of rectilinear shapes and beginning to apply this knowledge to triangles and parallelograms.

Science

We have been looking at how light travels and how it always travels in a straight line. We led an investigation to try and make it move differently using objects, paper with holes in and mirrors.

How does blood transport water?

We led a science experiment where we investigated how blood transports water by using gummy bears. We had distilled water, salt water, vinegar and coca cola. We found that blood vessels expand when they need water this was represented by gummy bears needing water.
