Year 6

A very warm welcome to Year 6...

Welcome to your Year group page. Please check over this to make sure you are familiar with life in Year 6 at Leys.

You can find out more about what we do in the school day; read about some exciting events and share in our learning.

Learning

Each term, we engage in different contextualised curricular themes and experiences that revise, develop and extend our knowledge and skills. This term, we will be focussing on these topics:

* Amazing Humans

* Let There Be Light

* Survival Of The Fittest

Can you tell what these topics might be about?

We have all begun working hard to prepare for our SATs tests, in May 2024, and are looking forward to completing these. Our weekly homework tasks are very important, to develop our knowledge and our confidence in each subject.

Homework

In Year 6 Homework is particularly important. Not only does it help to develop understanding of work from the classroom but also enables children to develop independence and organisation that will stand them in good stead at secondary school.

The Basic structure of homework in Year 6 is as follows:

Individual reading book (daily), using their selected ARA book, Bug Club.

Spelling practice (daily) based on the weekly spelling patterns taught or spellings in their vocabulary booklet.

English Grammar (1 x weekly)

Reading Comprehension (1 x weekly)

Maths (1 x weekly), based on the skills/ concepts taught in the week.

Mental arithmetic (1 x weekly)

SATs Revision (Spring Term)

Pupils may occasionally be given additional work to revise or research information in relation to the current unit of work.
