2I

    Welcome to 2I

We have been working hard since we returned to school in September.

We have elected two school council members - River and Daniel.

We have learnt about healthy eating and what we need to do to get ourselves healthy.  We created healthy eating plates and worked hard following an exercise regime!

We read a book about Emperor penguins and found out about  Antarctica, the habitat that the penguins live in.  We created our own different habitats using a selection of materials.  We made an ocean, rain forest, desert and Antarctica habitats.

This half term, we have started looking at Toys, Now and Then, and have used superheroes to create our own stories to write about, using the toys to help us.

We have been practising mindfulness and have followed a mindfulness program to help us manage our emotions.  It was very relaxing and we all enjoyed joining in.  We also had a go at following a yoga session.

Please remember to read  at least 3 times a week and sign the book and record the AR test result.

This term we have been looking at the topic of Transport which covers History, Geography, Design and Technology and Art.  We have been looking at different types of vehicles and created our own using different materials.

We visited Valence House to find out about vehicles in the past and how they have changed over the years.  We also got to look around the House at the different exhibitions.  We visited using public transport.

As part of Geography, we walked around our local area and looked at the different features .  We identified physical and human features.  We then created maps back in class of our walk and included some of the features that we found.

We learnt about compass points and followed directions to find treasure hidden around the school.  As part of our cross-curriculum links, in Maths we walked in groups to give directions using the vocabulary forwards, backwards, side ways, clockwise and anti-clockwise.  We asked our partner to move around the playground to a given place.  We then used the BeeBots in Computing to programme them using the vocabulary we had already learnt.

In Design and Technology we designed, created and evaluated our own vehicles.  We chose our vehicle design and picked from a selection of boxes.  We made axles with wooden doweling, which we cut down to size using a hack saw.  We followed our safety instructions and wore googles.

In Art we used collage to fill in our own vehicle shapes.  We used paper plates and made our own hot air balloons using a variety of materials to decorate them.

We had visitors to our class in the form of cute, fluffy chicks.  We were able to watch them grow after they had hatched from their eggs.  We saw their golden fluff start to turn into adult feathers.  We had the chance to hold them and watch them move around.

As you can see, we have had a busy term and are very much looking forward to the Summer term and all the new learning we have to come!
