Reading

Bug Club

Your child has been given a green reading record.  Inside, on the first page, you will see a your child's username and password for Bug Club.  Please try to log on and read the allocated books regularly.  As you read the book, you will see some bugs on some of the pages.  Click the bug to answer the question with your child.  Try to let your child lead the session offering support when needed.

Reading Books

Your child has been given a green reading record and a jolly phonics reading book.  They will need to bring both books to school with them everyday in their book bags.

You will see in the reading record the title of the book they have and any 'key' words that we would like you to focus on when reading with your child.  At the front of each book there are useful parental notes to help you read with your child.

Try to encourage your child to point to each word as they read them to develop 1:1 correspondence.

After reading with your child please write a comment in the comments section to let us know how they got on, for example:

Did they use the pictures to help?

Could they recognise any letters/words?

Did they recognise the 'key' word?  Can they write the 'key' word?

You will need to sign your child's reading record to let us know that you have read with them at home.  This lets us know that they are ready for a new book and we will change it.

Any lost books will incur a cost so please encourage your child to take care of the book and to put it back in their bag when they have finished reading it for the day.

Aim to read with your child every day, even if only for a few minutes.  It is so important the we instil a love for reading from an early age.

Below is a link for some ideas and links to different reading activities you can try at home.
